Senior care is a topic that many people find difficult to talk about and with the aging population many families are faced with the challenge of caring for their aging parents.

It’s a sensitive subject and often times people are unsure of what to do when faced with a loved one who needs help with day-to-day tasks or has medical conditions that need attention.

It’s not enough to just look up “home care services near me” and hope your caregiver is not only great but is licensed to perform skilled nursing services.

At JANCARE Private Health Services, we understand these struggles and wanted to give you some insight into skilled nursing services like Geriatric Care management and the importance of what they can do for your loved one.

With that being said…

What is a Geriatric Care Manager?

In general, a geriatric care manager is someone who oversees the physical and mental needs of individuals with illnesses, disabilities and other special needs.

These people are typically 4 year graduates with senior care  or health care management. When it comes to getting proper geriatric care we also ask that you should be very careful about people who offer home health care services of any kind without the proper certification to perform skilled nursing services.

When we say “proper certification” we mean people like Registered Nurses (RNs) who are certified and actually capable of treating people for a variety of medical conditions.

These same RNs are the ones who move on to become  Geriatric Care Managers and outside of a doctor should be the only other licensed or certified individual who should perform skilled nursing services.

What does a Geriatric Care Manager do?

A geriatric care manager does a variety of things at the benefit of a person’s health that consist of designing health plans that involves managing the daily task of maintaining their health and safety.

Many health plans designed by geriatric care managers can include helping with the social and emotional aspects of aging like memory loss, cognitive decline, chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s or dementia, and even consult on how to maintain a good quality life with such conditions.

If you’re an older adult or know someone who is living at home that is reliant on other people for care we highly recommend consulting with a geriatric care manager like Jancare Private Health Services before looking for general home care services so that a professional evaluate the situation.

Most times unlicensed professionals will try to suggest avoiding a medical assessment and to jump straight into getting home care services just to get hired instead of thinking about the client first.

Although geriatric care managers can deal with skilled nursing services, they can also do help with the normal day-to-day tasks that an elderly person might not be unable to do themself.

Such services included Housekeeping – Meal Preparation – Transportation – Errands – Shopping – Laundry – Medication – Health Care and other home care services.

If you need assistance, contact Jancare Private Health Services if you or your loved one needs assistance with Geriatric Care, Skilled Nursing Services, or General Home Care Services and we’ll medically evaluate your loved one for the best options to continue a healthy and balanced quality of life in the comfort of their home.
